


While it might not be the “real” sequel to Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros 2 is tons of retro fun. The result is an interesting fusion of classic Mario platforming and vibrant worlds, with extra playable characters besides Mario and Luigi. Worried that Western audiences would find the true sequel to Super Mario Bros too difficult, the developers opted to create a completely different experience.

There's a good reason for this, as Super Mario Bros 2 is actually an updated version of the Japanese platformer game, Doki Doki Panic. Although Super Mario Bros 2 offers players a similar experience as the first, namely frantic platforming action in inventive and colorful worlds, the game feels remarkably different from its predecessor. Super Mario Bros 2 is a classic 2D side-scrolling platformer game and is often considered one of the weirder games in the Super Mario Bros franchise.
